It is first important to understand that EMC stands for Electro Magnetic Compatibility. It basically deals with the issues of electromagnetic disturbances such as conducted interference, radiated emissions, and immunity problems. It does not cover how electromagnetic waves influence biological systems - this is a larger field called EMCE.

If you are only producing a small number of products, you are not going to want the extra EMC testing costs of the equipment that is needed.

It will be easier and cheaper if you can work with a professional, as they will be able to help locate the issues at hand, and offer solutions to the problems.
